Experience the Beauty of Bird-Friendly Yards
Attention, nature lovers, birders, and families! This October 12th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Orange Audubon Society invites you on an enchanting self-guided tour of bird-friendly yards across Central Florida. In partnership with the Florida Native Plant Society, Tarflower Chapter, and Wild Birds Unlimited of Winter Springs, this event uncovers the magic behind creating havens for our feathered friends.
See What’s Possible in Your Own Backyard
On this inspiring tour, you can explore eight stunning private yards that demonstrate how native plants and thoughtful landscaping can attract birds and pollinators. Although some gardens are established, others are newer projects, offering a glimpse into the rewarding journey of building bird-friendly environments. Homeowners will share personal stories, detailing their successes and challenges, as well as the best plants for attracting local wildlife.
A Bonus for Nature Enthusiasts: Backyard Biodiversity Day
If you feel inspired to transform your own backyard, make a note of the upcoming Tarflower Chapter’s Backyard Biodiversity Day, happening at Mead Botanical Garden on October 18th. You'll have the opportunity to purchase a variety of native plants, including those featured on the tour.
Why Now is the Perfect Time to Get Involved
This beloved event returns after popular demand, providing a unique chance to wander through two self-guided loops—one in the Wekiva area and another near downtown Orlando—at your convenience. A few days before the event, you’ll receive a map and descriptions of the featured yards, allowing you to plan your route and maximize your experience. Remember, due to time constraints, focus on the yards that excite you the most!
Join Us for a Memorable Day Supporting Local Birds
Tickets are just $15 for adults (bringing two youth ages 8-16 for free), with proceeds benefiting the future Orange Audubon Nature Center at Apopka Birding Park. Whether you are a family looking for an enriching day out or birding enthusiasts eager to learn more, this tour is the perfect fit.
