Dreams Really Do Come True at Disney Dreamers Academy
If there’s a place where dreams come true, it’s undoubtedly at the Disney Dreamers Academy, held at Walt Disney World Resort. Last week, I had the privilege of experiencing firsthand the transformative magic that unfolds during this five-day mentoring program designed for high school students eager to dream big and pursue their passions.
Exciting Opportunities Awaiting for Aspiring Filmmakers
This year, the Academy brought together an incredible group of 100 students, who were inspired by educators, celebrity mentors, and business leaders. One of the most exciting moments came for two aspiring filmmakers, Sydney Gilmore and Zane Stevenson. Their trip to California to witness the behind-the-scenes magic of ABC's hit show, Abbott Elementary, was a true highlight, especially as they received the surprise news from the show’s star, Tyler James Williams. Imagine experiencing the thrill of stepping onto a real set; that’s what dreams are made of!
A Wild Encounter with Hollywood Glamour
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, students had another memorable experience on a safari, guided by none other than Kelvin Harrison Jr., the voice of Taka/Scar in Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King. As they explored the wildlife reserve, these future animal scientists didn’t just learn about the animals—they got a glimpse into the life of a Hollywood star, solidifying their belief that they, too, can make their dreams a reality.
The Emotional Commencement Ceremony
The culmination of this magical experience is the emotional commencement ceremony. Overflowing with Disney magic, the students were joined by beloved characters, celebrated with high-energy performances, and presented with emotional class rings—moments that left many reaching for tissues. One standout was Colin Sproles, named Dreamer of the Year for his leadership and inspiring spirit. Winning this award not only recognizes his dreams but also earns him a family vacation back to Walt Disney World, complete with a magical Disney Cruise Line adventure!

Other students received extraordinary opportunities like Alex Onwuli’s educational trip to Washington, D.C. with National Geographic, Tristan Williams’ thrilling Zero-G Astronaut Experience, and Charlie Arnold’s filmmaking dreams taking flight with a private tour of Dolby Studios.
