The Kotka Yacht Store is facing a challenging scenario as it prepares to auction the two Princess-brand yachts. According to Heikki Kuokka, the company’s legal representative, the larger yacht, Fotinia, has accrued nearly 100,000 euros in unpaid storage fees. This amount, while significant, pales in comparison to the yacht's total worth, which is believed to exceed one million euros. "The other yacht is also valued modestly, but when combined, they represent a substantial financial asset tied up in a web of legal claims and sanctions," Kuokka noted.
Challenges of Ownership Disputes
The auction is not without its complications. The owners of Fotinia assert that they have sold the yacht to a European buyer; however, the Kotka Yacht Store remains unconvinced. The absence of verified transactions or documented sales has left the auction plans in limbo. Kuokka emphasized, "When transactions can't be confirmed securely for customs purposes, the situation remains unchanged, creating a stalemate." Marina Saimaan Portti's Jyrki Maaranen mentioned that he has not seen any payments for four years. The owners attribute their financial troubles to the same EU sanctions affecting the Kotka yachts. Despite these challenges, Maaranen has chosen to wait it out, holding onto hope that the situation may improve.
